sleep little lungs, sleep.

i have started to read francesca lia block's words again. i stopped for a little while. her words make me sad. not because they are tragic or melancholy but because i know that i could never write such wonderful, beautiful sentances. my words don't seem worthy next to hers.
but my love bought me some books and my bones are crying out for her stories.

the last few days, i have been a scientist. sitting on river banks, watching ma wade through the water. she is studying little water creatures. the kind that people seem to forget are alive. water mites and nymphs and beetles. it is my job to identify the little creatures in the tray and tally down the total. we have even caught a few fish, but they are naughty and shouldnt be in our nets.
animals love my ma. i do believe she should live in the water too. she would be the most beautifulest water creature.

i received such wonderful gifts this year.
an old picnic basket, vintage shoes, beatrix potter and alice in wonderland ballets, books, old suitcases, old perfume bottles, little things for my dolls house, vintage photographs, little masks, old doilies and hankies.

i am very lucky.

Those are wonderful gifts indeed! I think I had a few miniature Beatrix Potter books as well, though they've been lost over the years. Now I just have the regular box set, which is nice too but not tiny. ;) I love that pocket watch, I wear mine all the time, and was rather disgruntled when I saw it on a House M.D. character...no doubt it'll be a trend now. :/ Happy belated birthday to you!

Remember, your words are worthy.

Also, I forgot to ask! How well can you identify a water bug from a poorly written description...? I saw a really interesting one in our pond the other day but haven't the faintest idea what it could be!

Oh thank you!
You know how dragonfly larvae look when they're still in that exoskeleton, living underwater? It looked like one of those, simply coasting along with the current just beneath the surface, but not moving, I thought it was dead. The middle section (thorax?) had grey soft protrusions that really resembled delicate feathers perhaps a centimeter long. And finally, the thing that let me know he was alive...there were three pincher type protrusions from his hind end that curved outwards but met at the end. They moved like a squid! These were long, maybe two inches in length with little cilia.

Strange, isn't it? I've spent many days as a child and young adult exploring our ponds and have never seen such a creature.

I wore it out today and I cannot tell you how many people asked me where I got it! It was fun, I don't see myself as competent in the fashion department, haha.

I don't know francesca lia block, should I be ashamed? what does she write about?

"she would be the most beautifulest water creature. " what a lovely thought :)

oh darling, do not be ashamed. Her writing is very fairytale like but she involves it into real life stories. One of my favourites is i was a teenage fairy which is about a little girl who is a model but she doesnt want to be and she has a little fairy friend who follows her through life.

i love the bicyle photo!

i keep hearing such rave reviews of francesca lia block, but i, too, have to confess that i haven't read much of her work. i did read "weetzie bat", and i thought it was quirky and original, but after hearing others gush about her, i expected to be struck down with awe or something. :) should i give her another shot? what's your favorite book of hers?

you are one of the most beautiful people i have encountered ever--truly, you make me remember what it is to dream, to see, to know.
i think francesca would love you because you live your life like a character in her book, but one with a happy ending, or really the beginning.
i write to her a lot and met her, she's so kind....she has workshops in her house in la.
when i move to italy in a month, may i come see you sometime this year?
if anything your journals always heal the part in me which is full of doubt, because they remind me what magic it is to truly believe.
beautiful gifts my dear, you deserve so many things.

I love FL Block! I used to have a copy of Dangerous Angels but I passed it around my friends and it got lost somewhere along the way... Oh well, I hope it's with someone who loves it very much.

Your birthday presents are amazing! Here is a little song from me, I hope it's something you haven't heard before. Happy belated birthday!

Oh those tiny peter rabbit books! Your presents sound so dreamy.
Yours is the most beautiful bicycle-- tangled all in flowers.
PS. I think your words are lovely, another's shouldn't make you cry. Yours are just different words and they have their own beauty, which I do love to read.

what wonderful gifts! i do love old suitcases.

the time has passed so quickly since you first told of your little baby, i can hardly believe she will be here so soon. i wonder, are you a calm and serene mother-to-be, or a restless but happy busy bee?
